Sacramento Man Arrested In Sonoma Co. For Pot, Heroin Possession

SANTA ROSA, CA -- A man allegedly carrying a loaded handgun, marijuana and 38 grams of heroin was arrested on suspicion of possession at a Santa Rosa hotel Thursday, sheriff's officials said.

Tyler Harrison Smith, 37, of Sacramento, was arrested around 3 p.m. at the Hotel Santa Rosa at 2632 Cleveland Ave. and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of a number of drug- and firearm-related crimes, according to sheriff's officials.

The case began when a sheriff's deputy patrolling the hotel parking lot discovered a man allegedly going through a duffel bag in a Lexus.

The man gave a false name, "Jonathan Smith," and changed his story several times, though he did admit to being from Sacramento, sheriff's officials said.

The deputy contacted the Sacramento Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement there told him Smith had used "Jonathan Smith," the false name, to avoid law enforcement and that Smith had a felony warrant for drug sales from Sacramento, according to sheriff's officials.

Smith had a methamphetamine pipe in his pocket, sheriff's officials said. The deputy found a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun, ammunition, marijuana, a stun gun/billy club weapon and heroin in the car, according to
sheriff's officials.
