SAM SEBASTIANI RELEASES LA CHERTOSA 2013 AMADOR COUNTY ZINFANDEL

Release Follows Critically Acclaimed and Soul-Out 2012 Offering

Sam Sebastiani, a winemaking legend with deep, historical family roots in Sonoma Wine Country, is pleased to announce the latest release from La Chertosa, the 2013 La Chertosa Amador County Zinfandel ($35). This award-winning wine is following closely in the footsteps of the inaugural release in 2012 and maintains the consistent, well-made and balanced, food-centric characteristics of all of La Chertosa’s red soil-grown old world styled wines.

La Chertosa is named for the magnificent 14th century Renaissance monastery in the Tuscan valley of Farneta, Italy where the Sebastiani ancestral roots began. Here Sam’s grandfather Samuele Sebastiani learned from the monks to make wine in the “Old World” style. Samuele came to Sonoma in 1893, and found that Sonoma closely resembled faraway Farneta in three ways; it boasted a mild Mediterranean climate, had the same Mediterranean red soils and was blessed with gently sloping hillsides. He founded Sebastiani Winery in 1904, one of the first wineries in California and employed the time-honored techniques taught him by the Chertosinian monks in Farneta, to create in Sonoma, the winemaking style Sam continues in crafting the harmonic flavors in La Chertosa wines.

“If you look at great old-world European wines, whether they be from Italy or France, they have on thing in common, long-established vineyards in great winegrowing soil,” noted Sebastiani. “Whether it is Cherry Block at Sebastiani or the Kunde ranch in Kenwood or our vineyards in Amador, we held true to our heritage by having selected vineyards planted on the most valuable soils. Because of my over 50 years selecting the best locations, La Chertosa wines are the offspring of uniquely cultured vineyard sites.”
