Sam Sebastiani's La Chertosa Old World Wines Named One of the 2014 Hot Brands

Wine Business Monthly (WBM) has named Sam Sebastiani's new wine brand La Chertosa one of its Hot Brands for 2014

Wine Business Monthly (WBM) has named Sam Sebastiani’s new wine brand La Chertosa one of its Hot Brands for 2014. Back in the wine business after a several year break, Sam Sebastiani has returned with the introduction of La Chertosa Old World Wines. This deeply personal label honors his family’s winemaking tradition.

WBM goes on to say, “La Chertosa begins not with its California launch in mid-2014 but in the late 14th century at La Chertosa di Farneta, a monastery in a small Tuscan village near Lucca, Italy. It was there that Sebastiani’s grandfather, Samuele, first tended to vines and learned to make wine. He took those skills with him to California in the 1890s, founding Sebastiani Vineyards and Winery in the town of Sonoma in 1904. For La Chertosa, the anglicized version of the monastery name, Sebastiani is farming some of the same blocks of red-soiled Wildwood Vineyard that his grandfather worked with more than 100 years ago.”

“We are very excited with this designation” enthused Sebastiani. “The hope for La Chertosa was to create old world styled wines that pair harmoniously with food and can be enjoyed by many. Being named a Hot Brand by Wine Business Monthly confirms that my grandfather’s style and winemaking finesse are still appreciated today.”

“In the two previous chapters of my winemaking life,” Sebastiani reminisced, “running Sebastiani and then Viansa winery, we held true to our heritage, by striving to find the best soils and vineyards to create the ‘Old World’ winemaking style.”

La Chertosa wines can be purchased at fine wine locations in California, Nebraska and Colorado or by visiting www.lachertosawines.com. La Chertosa features 2013 Sonoma Valley Reserve Chardonnay, a 2012 Sonoma Valley Reserve Sangiovese, and a 2012 Amador County Reserve Zinfandel. Each wine is small-lot production and recent award winners.
