Sonoma GoPro Grand Prix To Impact Traffic: Advisory

Events related to the IndyCar race start Friday.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — An IndyCar race at Sonoma Raceway this weekend is expected to impact traffic on Sunday. Events related to the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma start Friday, and the heaviest traffic is expected Sunday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 5 and 8 p.m.

Race fans are advised to arrive early and enjoy the complete race day event before the race starts at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Gates at Sonoma Raceway at state Highways 37 and 121 open each day at 8 a.m.

Sonoma Raceway and more than 30 California Highway Patrol and Caltrans workers have developed a traffic plan on race day, raceway spokeswoman Diana Brennan said.

Sonoma County sheriff's deputies will check parking areas for guests with disabilities to ensure drivers and vehicles are not displaying fake handicap placards or placards that belong to someone else. Violators will be fined, ticketed and required to appear in court, Brennan said.

The 12-turn, 2.38-mile road course GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma is the Verizon IndyCar Series season finale.
