Sonoma Little League Marks 75th Season Today With Opening Day Celebration

SONOMA VALLEY, CA — Sonoma Little League launches its 75th season Friday as players, families and longtime fans gather at the ball fields for an opening day that celebrates more than baseball — it celebrates generations of community.

The league will kick off the milestone season today with its traditional Hat Ceremony at 4:15 p.m., followed by the first games at 5 p.m., as teams take the field and the stands fill with neighbors, alumni, and supporters eager to welcome another season of hometown baseball.

Founded in 1951, Sonoma Little League has spent decades teaching local kids the rhythms of the game — showing up for practice, learning from mistakes and backing up teammates. For many families, the fields have become a familiar gathering place where volunteer coaches mentor neighborhood players and parents and grandparents line the bleachers to cheer.

Opening Day marks the moment the season begins again: new teams take shape, friendships form in the dugout and young players pull on uniforms that have become a rite of passage for generations of Sonoma kids.

During the kick-off Hat Ceremony players receive their team caps and officially start the season. Games follow shortly after, with the Red Sox facing the Blue Jays at Hughes Field and the Twins taking on the White Sox at Teeter Field.

Organizers encourage community members to come early, bring a chair and enjoy the evening — whether they have a child in the league or simply want to be part of one of Sonoma’s longest-running traditions.
