Shahid Buttar is the executive director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee, founded in 2001 to defend civil liberties, constitutional rights, and rule of law principles threatened within the US by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
He is a constitutional lawyer and received his J.D. in 2003 from Stanford Law School, where he served as a Teaching Assistant for Constitutional Law and Executive Editor of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal.
He graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago with a BA in political science and creative writing in 2000, after a career in financial services to pay for college.
Shahid’s comments have been featured by news outlets including The Washington Post, The New York Times, Guardian, Intercept, USA Today, CNN, al-Jazeera, FOX News, Agence-France Presse, Huffington Post, Truthout, and Democracy Now!. He is also a regular guest on radio programs across the Pacifica network, including KPFA.
