Sonoma Valley Community Health Center Gets New Digs

$5 million federal grant will fund upgrades to the newly-purchased Sonoma Highway structure.

Sonoma Valley Community Health Center has purchased a new structure that after substantial upgrades will house an upgraded facility.

The 18,691-square foot facility on 19270 Sonoma Highway is expected to open its doors sometime next year.

A $5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration will fund upgrades that SVCHC CEO Cheryl Johnson said will create a state-of-the-art facility.

“This property will help us make our dream of a new Community Health Center for Sonoma Valley a reality," Johnson said in a prepared statement.

The new Community Health Center will feature a family practice clinic, an obstetrics and specialty services wing,  behavioral health services and community education centers, a dental clinic, laboratory services, and administrative offices.

The dental clinic will be the first in Sonoma County offering care for pediatric patients and expectant mothers from low-income families.

The SVCHC is the Sonoma Valley's leading provider of primary medical services to Medi-Cal, low income, and uninsured patients.

"Creating a new Community Health Center for Sonoma Valley is part of our strategic plan to improve service access, and expand primary care, dental, mental health, and substance abuse services," Johnson said.

"Our goal is to reduce the health disparities for the medically underserved populations in our service area while at the same time ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of the Health Center."
