Sonoma Water Planning Hearing June 17

Sonoma City Council will weigh updated water management and drought response plans after public review and comment.

SONOMA VALLEY, CA — The Sonoma City Council will hear public comments June 17 on two key planning documents that shape how the city manages water supplies, responds to drought conditions, and protects long-term water reliability.

Council members will hold a public hearing during their regular meeting to consider the Sonoma's draft 2025 Urban Water Management Plan and draft 2025 Water Shortage Contingency Plan.

State law requires cities to update the plans every five years. The documents outline strategies for water conservation, supply reliability, long-range resource planning, and responses to potential water shortages.

Although the plans carry a 2025 title, city officials said the documents rely on 2025 reporting data and move through review and adoption during 2026 as part of California's five-year water planning cycle.

City officials invited residents to review the draft plans online and submit comments through the Public Comment feature on the City's Meeting Portal or by email before 5 p.m. June 17.
