Suspect Taken Into Custody After Car Crash, Foot Pursuit, Police Dog Used
The man was arrested in Santa Rosa Thursday evening. Oh ... and the Honda he was driving was reportedly stolen.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA - A man was arrested in Santa Rosa Thursday in connection with driving a stolen vehicle and then leading police on a pursuit. Edward Alexis Martinez, 30, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading a police officer in a vehicle, hit-and-run, possession of heroin, resisting arrest, driving without a license, possession of burglary tools and violation of probation.
On Thursday at 5:48 p.m., a Santa Rosa police officer and his police dog were patrolling the area of Lance Drive and Guerneville Road when the officer saw a gray Honda pass on Guerneville Road at a high rate of speed.
The Honda turned onto North Dutton Avenue, and the officer followed and turned on his emergency lights to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle sped away, police said.

The vehicle crashed ended up crashing into a building near the 1200 block of North Dutton Avenue, and the driver, later identified as Martinez, tried to flee on foot, police said.
The officer chased the suspect with his police dog Riko, and the suspect went to the ground as the dog reached him. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Police said the vehicle Martinez was driving was reported stolen.
