Watch For 4-Hour Closing Set To Snarl Traffic

One project is winding down while another is about to disrupt a busy Sonoma corridor.

SONOMA VALLEY, CA — With one project ending and another beginning, Sonoma streets may see a brief but significant traffic shuffle before the week is out.

Drivers in Sonoma face traffic disruptions this week as city crews wrap up a long-running pavement rehabilitation project in the Fryer Creek neighborhood and a temporary road closure near Sonoma Highway threatens delays Tuesday.

The City’s Fryer Creek, Pickett Street and Nash Street pavement rehabilitation project is entering its final phase, with crews finishing improvements designed to extend roadway life and improve driving conditions, according to a statement from city officials.

While major work is nearly complete, intermittent traffic controls and minor delays may continue as crews finish remaining tasks.

But the sharper disruption may come Tuesday, when a separate non-city project closes the westbound lane of West Spain Street near Starling Bar from 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m.

The closure will block through traffic heading toward Sonoma Highway, funneling vehicles through detours as traffic control crews manage the work zone. Eastbound traffic will remain open, according to an alert from the city.

Officials warned motorists to expect congestion in the surrounding area as posted detours, flaggers and directional signage steer drivers, cyclists and pedestrians around the closure.
