📰 News we're reading

1. Emerald Bay Shuttle returns for second summer with added benefits (southtahoenow.com) — If you drive or bike around Emerald Bay, a new season of the Emerald Bay Shuttle from South Lake Tahoe could save you tickets and traffic headaches this summer. Running May 25–September 7, it offers expanded daily service, flexible pay-as-you-board fares, and better safety measures to curb illegal parking and congestion along SR89.

2. South Lake Tahoe's Bijou Park gets new bike trail and dog park upgrades (southtahoenow.com) — If you use Bijou Community Park, expect changes as South Lake Tahoe builds a new .6-mile bike and pedestrian trail linking existing routes and upgrades the dog park with recycled sod. Work will keep half of the big-dog area open at all times, but each side will close for about six weeks while improvements are completed this year.

3. Roadwork season underway in South Lake Tahoe (southtahoenow.com) — Expect significant roadwork around South Lake Tahoe this season, with Caltrans, the City, and El Dorado County all launching projects that could delay your commute by up to 30 minutes. Key corridors like US 50, Pioneer Trail, Al Tahoe Boulevard, and several neighborhood streets will see lighting upgrades, pavement rehab, and sealing work stretching through fall and into 2027.

4. Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents face power loss as utility redirects lines to data centers (thefifthskill.com) — Year-round residents in South Lake Tahoe could face serious power uncertainty and higher costs after NV Energy stops supplying electricity to Liberty Utilities in 2027, largely due to demand from regional data centers. Local advocates say low-income communities in South Lake Tahoe are being overlooked in state planning, and they’re pushing regulators for a more transparent process before new power contracts are signed.
