KIPP Empower Academy (KEA) will hold a talent show fundraiser to send 21 KEA first graders to Orlando, Florida this August.  KEA’s group of six-year-old steppers and breakdancers, known as StepUP—BreakDOWN, won a national competition and were selected to perform before more than 2,000 people at the KIPP School Summit, a gathering of the country’s leading thinkers on education reform, policy, and philanthropy.  Speakers at the summit include former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Larry Summers, Reed Hastings, Andre Agassi, David Rubenstein, and Martha Karsh, as well as college presidents Richard Brodhead from Duke University and Daniel Porterfield from Franklin & Marshall College.

The students must maintain good grades and demonstrate positive character at the South Los Angeles KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) elementary school to remain on the team.  A video of their most recent performance can be found at http://youtu.be/cuLuYAHHazk.  Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child, and $20 for a family pack (two adults and two children).  Donations may be made online at http://tinyurl.com/keaflorida.
