Resident Recounts Accident with Fallen Tree

The family is safe, but some of their property sustained serious damage.

Last night, at approximately 10:25 pm, Larry Cardona, 26, received an unexpected shock. A tree that stood in front of his South Gate home on Missouri Avenue all of a sudden fell on his front yard.

“I heard crackling,” said Larry Cardona, 26, who had moved and re-parked his pickup truck to make way for his wife’s car a minute prior to the collapse of the large tree.  “I told my wife and kids to stay back, and I ran towards the door of my front entrance.”

The large tree is said to have fallen because it was rotting from the inside. Cardona's front fence and roof were all damaged from this incident. However, his black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which he had purchased in 2006, was essentially destroyed.

“The engine started to ignite,” said Cardona who put it out the near fire with his garden hose.

Overall though Cardona is looking at the bright side of things despite no longer having a car, and having to deal with the fixing costs related to the damage of his home. Further adding that what is most important is that his wife, 2-year-old daughter, and 6-month-old baby are all safe from harm.

“Everyone is safe,” concluded Cardona. “Thank god that nothing happened.”
