Hugo Chavez Dead, Says Vice President of Venezuela

The Vicepresident of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, made the official announcement.

The Vicepresident of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said that Hugo Chavez, 58, the controversial president Venezuela's has died. He made the official announcement on venezuelan national radio.

Talking from the Hospital Militar "Carlos Arvelo", in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas where Chavez was recovering from a surgery related to his cancer treatment.

Maduro said Chavez died Tuesday at 4:25 p.m.

Chavez had been fighting the diseases since 2011, and chose Venezuelan Vice President Nicolás Maduro as his heir-apparent when it was clear that his deteriorating health would force him from office.
