Sheriff's Department Heightens Alert Due to Shooting at Colorado Movie Theater

The shooting occurred at a midnight showing the "The Dark Knight Rises."

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has issued a statement telling Los Angeles County residents to call authorities if anything does not look "right."

“While the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado appears to be an isolated incident, our vigilance has been raised," said Captain Mike Parker, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) Headquarters Bureau. "The heightened alert of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department includes increased patrols to create a more visible presence at movie theaters and other places where people congregate."

The shooting that took place at the Century Aurora 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado has already taken the lives of at least 12 people. James Holmes, 24, the alleged perpetrator of this serious crime, was taken into custody.

Holmes is said to have worn wore a bullet-proof vest and a mask as he opened fire in the theater with several weapons.

The parents of Holmes are residents of the San Diego County community of Rancho Penasquitos.
