Man Fatally Shot Inside Vehicle, Sheriff's Homicide Bureau Investigating

The man was shot on Wright Road, north of Imperial Highway. The street will continue to be closed for a good portion of the afternoon.

South Gate officials have confirmed the death of a man shot inside his SUV in South Gate, at 2:11 p.m. Friday. 

The incident occurred on Wright Road, north of Imperial Highway, according to South Gate Captain Keith Hupp.

"When officers got on the scene they had a gunshot victim who subsequently died at St. Francis Hospital," said Capt. Hupp.

According to a South Gate resident, who asked to have her name withheld, she heard several gun shots from inside her home. 

The resident also told Patch that she saw a bullet hole in the car's passenger window, clothes with blood on the ground and a cell phone.

Another witness claimed to have seen the victim driving his SUV, get out after he was shot, then collapse a few feet away.

The victim was described as a Hispanic male with tattoos by witnesses.

Because the incident is a homicide, the county's Sheriff's Homicide Bureau will be taking over the investigation.

Captain Hupp advised that motorists take an alternate route due to the closure of Wright Road for the remainder of the afternoon.
