‘Movies At The Park’ Begins Today

Weekly movies will be screened for free at South Gate Park.

The third annual movies at the park will kickoff this evening at the South Gate Golf Course in South Gate Park at 8:00 p.m. City officials are expecting a big crowd of residents to attend all five screenings of the screenings through out August.

“Last summer, we received 300 to 400 people,” said , Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of South Gate. “I expect us to have about the same this year.”

Residents are encouraged to bring their own blanket, beach chairs and snacks to better enjoy the showings.  The event is geared towards families and the compilation of movies illustrates this.

“We picked five movies that would be fun for the whole family,” said Adams. “To give everyone a chance to come and enjoy themselves.”

The following films will be screened on each Friday during August at 8 p.m.:

August 3: “Happy Feet II” by George Miller

August 10: “Puss in Boots” by Chris Miller

August 17: “Hop” by Tim Hill

August 24: “The Smurfs” by Raja Gosnell

August 31: “E.T.” by Steven Spielberg

The South Gate Golf Course is located at 9615 Pinehurst Avenue. There is no fee associated with watching the movie. Residents should call 323-563-5447 for more information on “Movies at the Park.”
