Police take ‘Extra Precautions’ with Local Movie Theatre

Colorado tragedy leads local and county police to enhance security.

The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) has informed South Gate Patch Latino that they are taking some steps to increase security at the local movie theatre because of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

“We have taken some extra precautions and have been in touch with the Edwards theatre,' said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD. ”Our officers are aware of the unfortunate situation that occurred in Aurora”.

James Holmes, 24, was arrested outside of the Century Aurora 16 theatre in connection with the massacre that took place during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises." Twelve people have already been confirmed dead and dozens reported injured.

"[We] feel that adequate measurements are in place," said Capt. Hupp, who also added that the local Edwards Theatre employs a private security outfit at their El Paseo location.

The SGPD is one of several law enforcement agencies that are keeping an extra eye out as result this serious incident.

However, residents are always encouraged to be vigilant and to report anything that looks dubious.

“We ask the public to remember to always pay attention to their surroundings and report anything that they find suspicious,” said Capt. Hupp.
