Police Nabs Two Gang Members In Connection with Robbery

Last night, at approximately 11:40 pm, officers from the South Gate Police Department (SGPD) were called to Huntington Park Community Hospital to take the statements of two victims from a stabbing. The stabbing took place near the intersection of State Street in South Gate.

“They were approached by three suspects on bicycles,” said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD, who added that the suspects demanded money. “They were attacked with knives.”

Less then two hours later, at around 1:20 am this morning, another robbery victim was reported near the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and South Gate Avenue.

“The suspects demanded the victim’s money and were both armed with knives,” said Capt. Hupp. The victim lost his wallet and cellular phone during the attack. “Within minutes the responding officers located and detained two suspects on Ardmore Avenue and Mountain View Avenue.”

The apprehended suspects were positively identified by the robbery victim, and had  the victim’s wallet, cellular phone and a knife. The SGPD has confirmed that the suspects were gang members from the city of Los Angeles.

The SGPD believes that the same suspects could have perpetrated both of these incidents.

“At this time detectives are investigating as to whether these two robberies are related,” said Capt. Hupp. “The circumstances were very similar.”
