Recent Hollydale Homicide Could Be Gang Related

The victim's name has yet to be released by authorities.

This past Saturday, August 25, 2012, . The violent incident took place at 12:40 a.m. on 6100 block of Nevada Avenue.

“There was a party at that location and the victim was standing outside when he was approached by three male Hispanics,” said Lieutenant Holly Francisco of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. “Words were exchanged, and one of the suspects or suspects began shooting at the victim.”

The victim,  whose name has yet to be released by the authorities has been described as a 22 year old man, sustained several gunshot wounds during the incident.

Investigators have yet to determine the reason behind the shooting. However, some information has pointed towards gangs.

“We believe it was gang related,” said Lt. Francisco.

The victim was taken to nearby hospital and pronounced dead at 4:57 a.m.

As of now, The police still investigating and has not made any arrests related to this homicide. 

Relatives of the victim, who identified themselves as the López Family, told South Gate Patch Latino that they were not ready to speak with the media about the incident.

Further adding that that for now they are just trying to deal with their grief. 

Hollydale is considered of South Gate.

“Hollydale is blessed with not having that much crime,” said  Councilmember Jorge Morales on police presence in Hollydale.

Residents interviewed in the area expressed overall shock about the recent shooting.

Mary Carson, who has lived in the area since 1963, admitted to being very surprised when she heard from neighbors about the recent  shooting. 

The area has always felt very safe to her.

“This is a safe neighborhood,” said Carson. “I wouldn’t hesitate to live here.”
