South Gate Police Arrest Five in Connection to Local Bar Robbery

The suspects were arrested at a motel in Hawthorne, California.

Last night, August 17, 2012, at approximately 11:03 pm, the South Gate Police Department (SGPD) responded to an armed robbery call that occurred at the on 10308 Atlantic Avenue.

“Two suspects had robbed the bar and the patrons at gun point,” said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD. “The suspects fled the scene with property from the bar and individual patrons.”

Police officers from the South Gate Police Department Crime Impact Team were able to both identify and locate the suspects involved in the robbery. Their vehicle was spotted at the Imperial Motel on 4709 W. Imperial Hwy in Hawthorne, California.  

“An undercover surveillance was established at that location,” said Capt. Hupp.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning, August 18, 2012, a suspect was spotted at the motel moving objects into the suspected vehicle.  Later, at 10: 30 a.m. SGPD officers pulled over the vehicle as it began to exit the hotel.

“The suspects were arrested without incident,” said Capt. Hupp.

Five suspects were arrested during this operation and the stolen property from Ixtapa was also recovered.  Detectives also found a loaded shotgun that is believed to have been used during the robbery.

The SGPD impounded two vehicles during this bust and are still investigating the case.

“The investigation is still on-going,” said Hupp.   “No further information is available at this time.”

Officers from the SGPD's Detective Bureau, Patrol Division, Crime Impact Team, and Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T) Team took part in this operation.
