South Gate Will Have a New Park

The designing stages for State Street Park will begin shortly.

The South Gate City Council approved an agreement with David Volz Design for the development of designs associated with the State Street Park project. The park will provide 4 acres of green space between California Avenue and State Street adjacent to Cesar Chavez Park.

“The west side of South Gate is very underserved,” said Paul Adams, director of Parks and Recreation. “Our community is very densely populated and people need green spaces.”

The design process is expected to take some time and construction will most likely begin in March of next year.

The Council approved the $150,000 contract with the design firm and allocated another $200,000 from a state grant for other architecture related works for the park.

The park will be fully constructed with grant money.

“We have got a grant that will get us through the constructions costs,” affirmed Adams.
