UPDATE: Southern California Edison Identifies Cause Behind Power Outage in South Gate

Equipment failure led to the outage and that power will not return to some customer until the evening, said a spokesperson.

UPDATE 3:40 p.m. : Power has been restored the affected areas, according to a city issued press release. In the statement all power was said to have been restored at approximately 3:00 p.m., according to Southern California Edison.

SOUTH GATE (CNS) - A power outage knocked out service today to about 3,800 customers in Lynwood and South Gate, Southern California Edison reported.

The outage began at 10:35 a.m., said Lois Pitter Bruce, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison.

Some customers had their electricity restored by 12:45 p.m., and all power was restored by 1:27 p.m., she said.

Later, Bruce said, another 1,000 customers were without power in the South Gate area on another circuit. She said that power on that circuit was not expected to be restored until early evening.

"The cause was underground equipment failure,'' Bruce said.

The boundaries of the outage were Elizabeth Street on the north, Imperial Highway on the south, Burtis Street on the east and Alameda Street on the west, she said.
