The suspect was armed with a home-made spear and non-lethal force was unsuccessful in disarming the suspect, authorities said.

MAYWOOD, CA — A suspect in a family disturbance call was shot to death Saturday by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, authorities said.
The county coroner's office has identified the suspect as 31- year-old Jesus Duran of Maywood.
It happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Corona Avenue, Deputy Lisa Jansen of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.

Family members told deputies the suspect identified as Duran was inside the residence in a bedroom, and "deputies saw the suspect was armed with a homemade spear," Jansen said.
"Deputies applied less-than-lethal force which was unsuccessful in disarming the suspect," Jansen said. "(The) suspect lunged at the deputies and one deputy fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect numerous times in the upper torso."
