South Gate Unemployment Rate Declines
The unemployment rate registered for May was slightly lower then that of January.

Unemployment in South Gate showed a small decrease when compared to the rate calculated during January of this year, according to the Employment Development Department (EDD).
For the month of May, South Gate registered an unemployment rate of 14.1 percent, which was 0.60 percent lower than the rate during January of this year.

The total labor force of in South Gate was reported at 41,400 people. Approximately 5,800 of this total were listed as unemployed, in comparison to the 6,100 that were registered in January.
Unemployment rates also declined at the county level.

In Los Angeles County the unemployment rate was recorded at 11.4 percent during May. A rate which was below the 11.8 percent that was registeredduring January of this year, according to the EDD.
The leisure and hospitality sector was among the biggest job creators after it recorded the largest month-over-month climb, when it added 9,100 jobs in the Los Angeles County area.
Los Angeles County has a labor force of about 4.9 million, and recorded a total of 560,000 people unemployed during the month of May.
The rate of joblessness was also down at the state level.
In fact, California's unemployment rate was 10.8 percent during May, anddown from the 11.1 percent from January. As result, the total number of out of work in California is currently estimated at 2 million.
This past May the national unemployment rate figures stood at 8.2 percent, which also prooved to be small decrease when comparing it to the 8.4 percent of January.
