City Council Meeting Report: Sept. 2 Decision Making & Concerns From The Community (southpasadenan.com) — South Pasadena's latest City Council meeting tackled how much the city gives up in fee waivers, with youth sports field use alone accounting for about $550,000 a year, and launched a $650,000 overhaul of citywide IT and cybersecurity systems. Councilmembers also approved flexible sidewalk repair fee waivers for residents, heard heated comments on Fremont bike lanes and goat grazing, and previewed changes to how community events get city support. 
2. Police Increase Patrols for Labor Day (outlooknewspapers.com) — South Pasadena police are stepping up DUI patrols through Labor Day, meaning more officers watching for impaired or unsafe driving around town this holiday weekend. Residents are urged to plan sober rides, wear seatbelts, avoid distractions, and report suspected impaired drivers to 911. The effort is part of a national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign funded by state traffic safety grants.
3. City Trims Trees in Monterey Hills for Wildfire Resilience (outlooknewspapers.com) — South Pasadena will start trimming city-owned trees in Monterey Hills this fall to reduce wildfire risk in some of the city's highest hazard zones. Crews will focus on dead and overgrown branches over streets and sidewalks, which may temporarily affect parking, while officials urge residents to create defensible space on their own properties and check the city website for detailed trimming schedules.
4. West Nile Virus Activity Surges Above 5-Year Average In SGV: Breakdown By City (patch.com) — South Pasadena is among several San Gabriel Valley cities where West Nile virus-positive mosquito samples have been detected this season, with four positive samples recorded in early August. Vector control officials say activity is above the five-year average and urge residents to dump standing water, maintain pools, and use EPA-registered repellents, especially around dawn and dusk over the holiday weekend.
