During a saturation patrol earlier this month, held Aug. 7, the San Bruno police stopped 22 vehicles, issued three citations and arrested a 30-year-old motorist for suspicion of drunken driving, according to officials.

"DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols are done in locations with a higher frequency of DUI-related collisions and arrests," the San Bruno Police Department said.

Officials reported that in 2017, 1,120 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes on California roads. Last year, San Bruno police investigated 10 DUI-related collisions, which resulted in 11 injuries, the agency said.

The agency reminded drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze," and that prescription drugs, particularly those with driving or operating machinery warnings, can impair and result in a DUI. Marijuana also can be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, police said.
