All-star athlete Trevor Kelly, 17, was raised by the sport.

“Sports was like my therapy as a kid,” Kelly said.

As a child, Kelly endured physical and emotional abuse for most of his short life.  But these injuries, though deep, did not teeter the El Camino High School graduate from succeeding on and off the field.

Kelly will be attending CSU Sacramento on a football scholarship after receiving Athlete of the Year from El Camino High School.

Kelly said his coaches, particularly baseball coach Carlos Roman, made him the strong young man he is today.

“He’s basically the father figure I never had,” Kelly said of Coach Roman. “He’s an inspiration and has influenced my life tremendously.”

Kelly dedicates his success in school and in life to his older brother, Devin Kelly, also an athlete on scholarship at Western Kentucky University.

“He’s not just my brother, he’s my best friend,” Kelly said.

Through the hardest of times and the greatest of victories, Devin was Trevor’s number one fan.

Although Kelly can barely believe his own success, his determination is sure to put points on the board for years to come.

“I came to school everyday and did sports with a purpose; I didn’t come to school because I had to,” Kelly said. “My goal as a kid was to become successful, and right now, I feel like I’m living my goal.”
