Bay Area High School Bands to Compete for Prizes at Annual Fleet Week

The challenge starts at 10:30 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. at Spreckels Temple of Music, also referred to as the band shell, in GG Park.

Eight Bay Area high school bands will compete Monday in the annual San Francisco Fleet Week High School Band Challenge, Fleet Week officials said.

The challenge starts at 10:30 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. at Spreckels Temple of Music, also referred to as the band shell, in Golden Gate Park.

The competition gives the bands an opportunity to win cash prizes of more than $28,000, Fleet Week officials said.

The schools competing this year are American Canyon High School, the 2014 winner Benicia High School, Clayton Valley Charter High School, Mount Eden High School, North Monterey County High School, Oak Grove High School, Phillip & Sala Burton High School, and Santa Teresa High School.

Camp Pendelton’s 1st Marine Division Band will also entertain people with patriotic and upbeat tunes, Fleet Week officials said.
