Must-have apps for San Francisco residents

Whether you've been in the city for some time and can suggest any tourist many new places to encounter, there are plenty of other places yet to have been discovered. This list can help any new or old resident discover some of the finer things of San Francisco including information on city engagement and commuting.

For New Adventures:

Field Trip by Google - Want to discover stuff in your city where you play the most? Field Trip helps you learn about different locations by popping up detailed cards every time you get close to something interesting. The app--optimized for smartphones, not tablets--runs in the background so at any point you can discover more about your own neighborhood or a new part of town. For the iOS faithful, Field Trip launched in the Apple Store in March so there’s no excuse for not taking in the field trips.

Nara Mobile - Ever wanted to try something new, but with a little bit of the something old? Nara recommends new restaurants based on personalization. The app browses places to eat based on a customized profile. Nara also allows you to check out new restaurants in places you are visiting and make reservations.

Thrillist - If you’re not already signed up for a Thrillist newsletter in San Francisco, you’re missing out. Thrillist gives you the business on all of the best restaurants and bars going on in and around the city. From the best bars to best burgers in town, finding new places to eat drink in San Francisco becomes a joy.

For city information:

SF 311 - SF 311 from CitySourced is a real time mobile civic engagement platform. CitySourced provides a free, simple, and intuitive platform empowering residents to identify civic issues (public safety, quality of life, & environmental issues, etc.) and report them to city hall for quick resolution.

Commuting:

Transporter - A real-time public transit designed specifically for the bay area. The app provides real-time arrival information for MUNI, BART, and AC Transit. Transporter also lets you save the lines and stops you use most so you can see all your transit options at a glance.

ParkMe - Fueled by their San Francisco Parking information page, their iOS and Android app for commuter in the area. The app shows you real-time parking information, prices, and availability for most of the San Francisco area.
