Smiley Face Salute to South San Francisco District Seniors

For many years, honor graduates from our two high schools had a community recognition event at the Municipal Services Building; well over two hundred of the graduates with a 3.0 cumulative GPA were given a certificate and acknowledgement by their parents and friends. Unfortunately, that event is no longer on the calendar. However, it's important to note that those numbers still hold true.

Beyond that, the Rotary Club of South San Francisco just completed interviews with 20 of the very top youngsters graduating shortly, with a total of $21,000 college scholarships to be awarded to those selected. What a tough job to differentiate among our best and brightest. As a sampling, most were tending toward math and science, with a large number interested in bioscience areas. The City's large biotech sector had some influence on their choices, as stated by several of the candidates. All were also involved in both school and community activities, and will undoubtedly be excellent ambassadors in college for both the school district and the City in which it's located.

While the school district has had a few bumps over the past couple of years, kudos nonetheless to the teachers, administrator and, of course, parents that had a hand in producing these stars.
