Can You Tell Unemployment is Dropping?

Or are the slightly rosy numbers divorced from everyday life?

With the jobs forecast slowly improving on the national front, unemployment in South San Francisco stayed under 9 percent for the second month in a row, according to data released Monday by the California Employment Development Department.

Local unemployment in January was 8.9 percent, the same as December. December was the first month South City's unemployment rate fell under nine percent since January 2009.

Can you feel the change in the local jobs environment, or is the improvement so slow as to be imperceptible? Leave your impressions and experiences in the comments section below.
