CHP San Francisco Swears in 5 New Senior Volunteers

On Friday September 25, 2015, The California Highway Patrol (CHP) San Francisco Area swore in five additional Senior Volunteers who attended and graduated from a two day Senior Volunteer Academy.

The San Francisco volunteers now total 11. These volunteers will assist officers at public events and safety presentations, deploy the radar trailer, conduct speed and distracted driving surveys, and go on ride-a-longs. Volunteers will also help with filing, data entry, answering phones and greeting citizens when they come into the area offices.

“The CHP’s mission is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security to the public,” Commander Christopher Sherry said. “We are an organization that provides indispensable services to our community. In order to accomplish this level of service, we will utilize these outstanding citizens. Senior volunteer efforts free up both uniformed and non-uniformed members of the Department to concentrate on their core duties. I am so excited to work with this diverse group of caring citizens to save lives and improve departmental efficiency. ”

The objectives of the CHP’s Senior Volunteer Program are to provide enhanced public service to the community, provide an opportunity for senior citizens to make a definitive contribution toward improving public safety and service and instill among participating volunteers an understanding and appreciation of the justice system, human relations, and ethics in the field of law enforcement.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Commander Sherry welcomed guests and introduced Chief Paul Fontana who provided congratulatory remarks to the graduates. The senior volunteers were sworn in by Commander Sherry.
