Danielle Sison, 17, describes herself as a simple, nice, young woman, but her modesty can't mask her major achievements at El Camino High School. Sison received El Camino's Citizenship Award for having such simplistic courtesy and kindness for her fellow peers and others.
“I figured it was because I’m nice,” Sison said. “I really do like helping people.”
Though Sison will be attending UC Irvine with an undeclared major, she hopes that later she can study child development or psychology so she can continue helping the community.
Her desire to help others stems from her parents' constant support, Sison said. Each of Sison’s parents works two jobs in order to support their family. Their dedication to her education has taught Sison lifelong lessons of determination and love.
“I see my parents working hard for me, so I feel like I should do something for other too,” she said. ““I feel like I have to give back to them for what they’ve provided me because I feel very privileged to have what I have.”
