City Grants Appeal of Medical Marijuana Dispensary Permit
A nearly two-year debate over a medical marijuana dispensary was wrapped up at Wednesday night's city council meeting.

In what amounted to a technicality, the South San Francisco City Council unanimously approved a neighbor's appeal of a medical marijuana collective permit in keeping with the city's recent ban of medical marijuana dispensaries.
On Oct. 1, 2009, the Planning Commission gave Island of Health a conditional permit to open a medical marijuana dispensary at 175 Utah Avenue.
However, later that month neighbors filed an appeal of the permit.

According to Billy Gross of the Planning Division, the medical marijuana dispensary is considered a public nuisance after the adoption of South San Francisco Municipal Code Chapters, 20.110, 20.490 and 20.570.

βI think because of the city council adopting ordinances that bans these facilities, this is just a formality,β said appellant attorney Thomas Roth.
βThis matter has been discussed extensively on the policy level,β said Mayor Kevin Mullin.
