South San Francisco residents are encouraged to exchange their mercury fever thermometers for a free digital thermometer.
The exchange comes as mercury is shown to be toxic to humans' nervous system, brain, kidneys, liver and immune systems.
The exchange is held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 31 at the Public Works Corp Yard.
