'Hot Cop of Castro' in Hot Water: Arrested on Hit-and-Run Charges

A police officer known for his good looks and internet charms is facing some serious charges Monday, accused of hitting two pedestrians with his car– and then leaving the scene.

Officers responded at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday to a hit-and-run collision at Broadway and Montgomery Street, according to police. They soon learned an off-duty San Francisco police officer driving a Dodge Charger hit two pedestrians and left the area– and his car, police said.

The pedestrians, two men in their 40s, were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, which were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Officers said the driver of the car was identified through the vehicle’s registration as SFPD Officer Christopher Kohrs, 38, who is known as the Hot Cop of the Castro. He later turned himself in at police headquarters, according to police.

The Castro is a district in San Francisco known for being friendly to gays, according to the Castro-Upper Market Community Benefit District. Kohrs gained social media fame during his time patrolling the area, and a Facebook page dedicated to him has more than 52,000 followers.

Police said they booked Kohrs into the San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of two counts of felony hit-and-run. He has since posted bail and is no longer in custody.

Kohrs is currently on unrelated medical leave. If he becomes eligible to return to duty, he would then be suspended pending further investigation, police said.
