How Does CAD/CAM Technology Work?

CAD/CAM technology helps dentist provide dental crowns, inlays and onlays and other dental devices for their patients in one dental visit.

More patients are choosing CAD/CAM technology for its ability to produce aesthetically pleasing restorations more quickly than traditional techniques. Consisting of cutting-edge equipment used to design and carry out construction of several restorations, this technology can be completed in just a single appointment.

Restorations created through CAD/CAM are first planned with images of the teeth taken by special cameras. After transferring the images to a computer and optimizing the design, our dentist begins the construction process. The CAD/CAM machine shapes, tints, and hardens the restoration according to specifications set by our dentist.

In contrast to several other conventional restorations, which require patients to visit our office a second time after their restorations have been made at another facility, CAD/CAM allows patients to relax in our waiting room for their restorations. Fit and tint are also superior thanks to the precision of this process.

Although CAD/CAM options can be chosen by most patients, certain situations may make traditional restorations preferable for the best results. After getting CAD/CAM restorations, patients enjoy a high level of comfort and appearance long into the future. To learn more about this process and what it can achieve, patients can schedule a consultation with our San Francisco dentist.
