New Safeway Store at 190 El Camino, South San Francisco Opens in June

I don’t remember the date Safeway closed its store at this location but in this same area Longs, Service Merchandise, CVS stores were also stationed at this area but the all the stores closed. I always thought this area belonged to San Bruno.
A new Safeway store is at last open in South San Francisco ; I heard this is supposed to be a headquarter for the county. Two coupons worth $10 were mailed to the residents.

I was prepared to go in the opening day but there was no parking space left on the 1 pm opening ; lots of cars and people were attending the event , so I opted for the next day to see less customers but it was still hard to find a parking space. The good news you can enter Safeway parking lot via El Camino, Spruce, Huntington streets but during the opening I only saw one opening due to ongoing construction. There is an escalator, stair, two elevators to go up the store. Of course since store is new, it smells clean and fresh.

My brother-in-law who went on opening said the prices are expensive and Costco prices are lower. What I discovered that indeed the prices were quite high but you can save a lot by being a member by downloading the Safeway app and clip the coupons you like because all the low prices were labeled “Member Prices”. Employees were helpful to give you carts for shopping and where items are available .

The staff gave free Safeway bags and on different tables, they offered you to sample barbecue, chewy bar, berries, juices, calamari salad. I like the beautiful, fresh , fabulous flowers grown by California farmers and growers, a partner of Safeway. I heard a lady said, “ I got this ( cheese) for free using her 300 points as member. You can also order hot food. What I like most is they’ve a pharmacy. The old Safeway has a CA lottery box bin where you can buy tickets or scratchers; this new one doesn’t have any.

There are now several SSF grocery stores to shop nearby : Lucky, Smart & Final, Target, Costco, Farmers Market at the Park, Traders Joe.

Safeway provides another option for residents to buy their groceries but to get low prices you need an app. I don't recommend to shop at this new location at prime hours because it’s hard to get a parking space and it’s located at heavy traffic intersection ; you can shop early or late at night for they open at 5 am and closes at 2 am in tho morning. The nearby Lucky store which has big spacious parking beats Safeway in parking availability.
