SMC Man, 71, Killed In Crash On Local Transition Road

DALY CITY, CA — A man who died in a crash in Daly City last week has been identified as 71-year-old Walter Powell, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.

Powell, a Daly City resident, died of natural causes after he suffered a "medical event" and crashed into a guardrail while driving on a transition road from northbound state Highway 35 to northbound state Highway 1 around 10:55 p.m. last Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Powell's friends and family shared their condolences on social media. His loved ones said Powell was a "rock" in times of need, according to one post.
