South San Francisco Man ID'd In Deadly Crash

Police say they tried to pull the man over in a traffic stop for speeding just before he crashed. (Breaking)

DALY CITY, CA – San Mateo County coroner's officials have identified a man who died after allegedly speeding away from an attempted traffic stop by Daly City police over the weekend. South San Francisco resident Javier Mercado was just 26.

According to Daly City police, an officer tried to pull Mercado over around 4 a.m. Saturday on Mission Street near John Daly Boulevard after spotting him speeding. Rather than pulling over for the officer, the man allegedly didn't stop and kept going southbound on Mission Street.

Because the motorist was driving so fast, the officer didn't chase him, but found the vehicle shortly afterward in the 7400 block of Mission Street, according to police.
