SSF Man ID'd In Deadly Crash
Breaking: Police say the 78-year-old was killed while trying to cross a major thoroughfare.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — San Mateo County coroner's officials have identified a man who was recently hit by a vehicle while he attempted to cross a major South San Francisco roadway. The man was struck on Thursday around 7:19 p.m. along Westborough Boulevard, just west of I-280, and died at the scene according to police.
Coroner's officials say he was s Benjamin Mariano of South San Francisco. He was 78.
Police said Mariano was trying to cross three eastbound lanes when a car traveling east struck him. The driver stopped, called police and cooperated with the investigation.

"The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene," police said in a news release. "Traffic was detoured around eastbound Westborough Boulevard for several hours while South San Francisco Police traffic officers conducted their investigation."
The case remains under investigation and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police Officer Daniel Zhang at (650) 877-8900.
