The U.S. Postal Service facility at the airport was immediately evacuated following the discovery, and it remained evacuated as of 2 p.m. as officials investigated.

USPS spokesman Augustine Ruiz says the inbound package, which was in the possession of customs employees at the International Service Center, was scanned and someone noticed "something irregular," so the building was evacuated as a precaution.

The incident is being handled by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and by local law enforcement, Ruiz said.
