Suspicious Package in Tree Shuts Down Market Street
The investigation is a few blocks from the Apple event being held at the nearby Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

A backpack in a tree prompted the San Francisco police bomb squad to respond and shut down a section of Market Street for two hours this morning, police said. Police were flagged down on Market Street between Eighth and 10th streets at 9:43 a.m. to investigate a suspicious package in a tree, police Officer Albie Esparza said.
Officers shut down Market Street and other streets in the area and called the department’s bomb squad to come out and investigate the package, Esparza said.

The bomb squad determined the package, a backpack in the tree, was harmless and reopened the streets at about 11:45 a.m., police said.

San Francisco police are investigating a suspicious package found in a tree along Market Street this morning, according to police. Police were flagged down on Market Street between Eighth and 10th streets at 9:43 a.m. to investigate the package in the tree, police Officer Albie Esparza said.
Officers shut down Market Street and other streets in the area while they investigate. The police bomb squad has responded to determine what the package is, Esparza said.
The Apple event is being held at the nearby Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Officials have not said if the two are believed to be related.
