Transit, environmental expert Tony Lee joins HNTB’s Northern California team

Lee brings extensive environmental and transportation planning experience with major public- and private-sector clients nationwide

Anthony “Tony” Lee, a national leader in transit and environmental planning, has joined HNTB’s Northern California leadership team in Oakland as associate vice president and senior project manager. He previously served as HNTB’s Northeast Division planning lead in New York and, prior to joining HNTB, worked as a city planner for the City of Berkeley.

“Tony’s expertise is an invaluable asset to our expanding rail and transit teams,” said Darlene K. Gee, HNTB vice president and Northern California District leader. “He has delivered on major projects in both New York and Los Angeles and understands the distinctive infrastructure needs and challenges of a metropolitan region like the Bay Area.”

Lee is providing station area planning and station architecture support for the California High-Speed Rail project. HNTB is leading the environmental process and preliminary engineering for the high-speed rail line from San Francisco to San Jose and Merced.

Lee brings more than 27 years of experience in project planning management and development, including expertise in National Environmental Policy Act and California Environmental Quality Act process reviews, environmental impact studies and obtainment of NEPA Records of Decision for highway, rail, bridge and transit projects nationwide, such as the Port Authority Trans Hudson to Newark Rail Link Station Extension and the Amtrak Washington Union Station Master Plan Improvement project. He has extensive public- and private-sector experience, having previously worked for the Federal Transit Authority and delivered environmental impact studies for major transit projects including the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Westside Subway Extension and the Crenshaw/LAX Light Rail Project.

Lee earned a master’s degree in regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional studies from Cornell University.
