Urban Shield, Bike Plan on City Council Agenda

City Council will have a regular meeting at 7 p.m. at 33 Arroyo Drive, preceded by a special meeting closed session at 6 p.m.

At the open meeting, the council will hear a Halloween safety presentation and a crime prevention and National Night Out presentation by South City Corporal Brennan.

South City Fire Chief Philip White will present on Urban Shield, the emergency preparedness 4-day training event that begins Friday Oct. 26.

According to the South City Fire Department, Urban Shield 2012 is the largest emergency training exercise in San Mateo County of the past 12 years. Agencies from around the peninsula, a Civilian Assistance Team with the U.S. Army, South San Francisco CERT members and citizen volunteers will participate.

Teams will be meeting at South San Francisco High School at 400 B St., and will visit various sites in the city for training exercizes on a daily basis.

City Council will also address the Complete Streets Resolution that aims to improve bicycle and pedestrian circulation in South City. This policy plan would make South San Francisco eligible for part of the $26 million of MTC's OneBayArea grant funds allocated for San Mateo County.

Also at tonight's meeting, the council will look at a resolution that would increase the budget for the Siebecker Center Playground enhancement project by $55,000 to account for ADA changes to the design and for construction management costs.

At the 6 p.m. special meeting closed session, City Council will conduct labor negotiations.
