Water Pipeline Project Delayed, Again

The Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 Replacement Project is set to be completed in mid-November.

Representatives of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission told the South San Francisco City Council on Wednesday that the Crystal Spring Pipeline No. 2 Replacement Project timeline would be extended yet again.

SFPUC Regional Communications Liaison Alison Kastama said the delay was necessary in order to provide the city with appropriate services.

β€œConstruction projects are never pretty,” said Kastama, in a presentation on water delivery methods. β€œWe recognize it’s taken a lot of patience.”

The project, which aims to replace water pipelines installed in the 1930s, was initially set for completion in September but has since extended the completion date to mid-November.

According to Kastama, the project is currently in a phase of active construction and pipeline testing. After the pipelines have been tested, the contractor will begin resurfacing city streets.

β€œIt’s been a process to get through this construction,” Kastama said.

Mayor Kevin Mullin said though the project’s main concern should be safety, there should also be an element of haste.

β€œIt is indeed creating a hardship for our neighbors,” he said.
