Wild Police Pursuit in Benz Detailed in South San Francisco Car Burglary Case

Police say during the incident, one of the suspects carjacked someone of a Mercendes-Benz and fled onto the 101.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA – A suspected burglar led police officers on a foot chase, carjacked a rental car worker of a Mercedes-Benz and then led cops on a vehicle pursuit on Highway 101 before he was ultimately apprehended with the help of a canine, officials say.

According to South San Francisco police, it all started around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the area of Airport Boulevard and South Airport Boulevard. Officials received several reports of vehicle burglaries possibly involving a red minivan at local hotel and business parking lots, and went to check it out.

"Officers began checking the area and located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a warehouse store on South Airport Boulevard," police said in a news release. "When an officer attempted contact with the suspects, the driver fled on foot from the vehicle."

A police officer chased after the man on foot, but that man ran to a nearby rental car agency and carjacked an employee of a Mercedes-Benz, officials said.

However, a second officer who had just arrived at the scene saw the man take off in the stolen Mercedes, and began to chase after him, police said.

"As the suspect fled, he collided with two vehicles stopped at a red light and then fled the scene of the traffic collision," according to SSFPD, who added that the man then headed north on Highway 101. "The suspect's vehicle became disabled and he abandoned it on the freeway near Oyster Point Boulevard."

Again, the man took off on foot, police said. Responding officers set up a perimeter.

"After a search of the area and another foot pursuit, the suspect was found hiding in a railway car," police said. "The suspect was then apprehended by a SSFPD officer and his canine partner (no injuries were sustained)."

At the warehouse store, a second suspect was arrested when he was also found hiding, police said. He was in the parking lot. A third suspect, who escaped after leaving eastbound through the parking lot, is still at large.

Officers found stolen goods from at least eight burglaries in the suspect's red minivan, police said.

Pinole resident Brandon Barrett, 22, was identified as the man who allegedly took off in the Benz, while Fairfield resident Aloyouis Bruce, Jr., 23, was identified as the man who allegedly hid in the warehouse parking lot. They were booked into the county jail on suspicion of a variety of offenses such as felony vehicle burglary, felony carjacking and obstructing officers.

Barrett is being held on $200,000 bail while Bruce is being held on $50,000 bail.
