• California scientist wins Nobel Prize for groundbreaking brain research (usatoday.com) — Stanford neuroscientist Karl Deisseroth has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for pioneering optogenetics, a technique that uses light to control specific brain cells. His work, shared with two German collaborators, is transforming how scientists study complex conditions like severe depression and Alzheimer's disease, bringing global recognition to research rooted at Stanford.
