Stockton to hold listening sessions on data centers after council removes them from plan (recordnet.com) — Stockton residents will soon be invited to November listening sessions after the City Council unanimously pulled data centers from its new three-year economic development plan, responding to environmental and neighborhood concerns. The move lets other job, housing, and retail initiatives proceed while the city studies potential data center impacts, locations, and regulations with input from every council district.

Stockton's Día de los Muertos Street Fiesta Invites Community to Celebrate Life, Memory and Tradition (caravannews.com) — Downtown Stockton will host a family-friendly Día de los Muertos Community Street Fiesta on Saturday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mexican Heritage Center & Gallery. Stockton council to consider former clerk's return, public safety staffing incentives (stocktonia.org) — Stockton residents should know the City Council is set to vote Tuesday on rehiring former City Clerk Bonnie Paige as interim clerk and approving nearly $400,000 in incentives to fill police dispatch and firefighter engineer vacancies. The meeting comes amid ongoing questions about council residency rules and a pending state review of Vice Mayor Jason Lee's eligibility to serve.
   

4. Family of accused Stockton serial killer testifies in competency trial (recordnet.com) — Jurors in San Joaquin County are hearing emotional testimony from family members of accused Stockton serial killer Wesley Brownlee as they decide if he is competent to stand trial. Relatives described his past mental health struggles and stark behavioral changes in jail, while prosecutors pressed them on earlier statements and his ability to work and live independently before his 2022 arrest.
   

5. Manteca police detain three people after gunfire ends high school football game early (stocktonia.org) — Families connected to Stockton's Cesar Chavez High School should know Friday's varsity football game at Manteca High was cut short after a gun was fired into the air outside the stadium, prompting people to flee. No one was hit, three people were detained, and Manteca High is offering counseling while police continue investigating and asking witnesses to share information.
